Local Organic Whole Foods
Whether you eat meat 4x a day, never had an ounce of animal product, Paleo, Fruitatarian, whatever you are and however you eat…Clean food is a necessity. We can gripe about someone’s spiritual views on food or how they choose to fuel their bodies, but I believe at the end of the day there is one thing that we can all agree on. Our Food should be grown in clean environments without the use of toxic-chemicals.
Clean food begins with knowing where your food is being grown and who is raising it. When working with the Pro-Organic Belize Co-op we partnered with a Mennonite family who agreed to begin growing 30% organic and transition more of his crops if there was a market.
This taught me an important lesson. Just like any business, Farmers will grow what we are going to buy and eat.
The Transition begins when we demand Clean Food
There was something special about my time in Belize, I had never been surrounded by such like-minded people and I loved it. I had very little desire to eat unhealthy because we were regularly eating meals like the one below. Surrounding yourself with people who share a common vision can have a huge impact on your motivation, production, and accomplishments.
No, not the corrupt and overpriced grocery store.
Whole Foods are foods that have been minimally processed and have no added ingredients. Some examples are Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, Meats, Eggs, and Legumes.
Each food has a different temperature where vitamins, nutrients, and enzymes are depleted. Sometimes heating them can activate new healing properties, but for a lot of them the ideal means of consumption is raw. Killing these enzymes can lead to a range of diseases and it is even proven that if more than 50% of a meal is cooked then the body goes into an emergency mode and does not recognize the meal as food. The Hippocrates Health Institute provides raw healing sessions in Florida that have shown tremendous results on a variety of issues.
Contrary to popular belief, plant-based diets are extremely healthy and do not lack protein, actually the proteins are much more sustainable and lack casein. A majority of the people I come in contact with could not go a day without meat, I understand where they are coming from because it is such an implanted part of our society. I am not anti-meat, but I see a need for smaller portions less frequently and from much cleaner sources.
Organic Foods are grown without the use of synthetic agrochemicals. Conventional crops are sprayed with Fungicides, Pesticides, Herbicides, and many more deadly chemicals. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has collected data on produce throughout the country and released The Clean Fifteen and The Dirty Dozen to show which conventional crops are safe to eat.
The Dairy Situation
Growing up we were going through 16 gallons of milk a week as a family(8 of us) and I continued with about a gallon a week until Fall of 2015. I remember watching this clip from Forks over Knives and instantly removed it from my diet as a test, the results were amazing and I can guarantee that I will not go back. There was a weight lifted out of my gut that I did not know existed, it was amazing.
